Camilla joined The Social Outfit as CEO in 2019, after a 20-year career in the field of international development and peace. Previously, she held the roles of Director of the Institute for Economics and Peace - which she led for the decade 2008 to 2018 - and Chief of the United Nations Office for Partnerships in New York from 2005 to 2007. Camilla has lived and worked in Africa, Europe, North America and Australia. She is a passionate promoter of the principles of multiculturalism, equity and social justice with a particular focus on migrant affairs and issues affecting children and young women.
Natalie joined The Social Outfit team in 2020, as our official Retail Trainer, working one on one with young people from refugee and new migrant communities, teaching retail skills with the goal to transition these young people into external paid employment.
Natalie comes to The Social Outfit with an 11 year career as an eco stylist, she is also the founder of ‘tommie magazine - the destination for creative Womxn with a conscience’, as well as the National Retail eco stylist for Save the Children Australia Op Shops. She is a strong advocate of decolonizing fashion, raising awareness on the issues of intersectionality within environmentalism and representation within the sustainable fashion space, by elevating the voices and work of BIWoC. Social justice, equity and representation are key issues within all facets of her work.
Mariam is The Social Outfit’s Project Coordinator. She is responsible for overseeing our community engagement programs.
Mariam is an entrepreneur, speaker, and facilitator. She is among the Australian Financial Review 100 Women of Influence list, 40 under 40 Most Influential Asian-Australians, a 2020 NSW Young Woman of the Year Finalist, and a 2021 7News Young Business Achiever of the Year Finalist.
Mariam is the co-founder of another social enterprise, MoneyGirl, and believes strongly in community-led solutions to social problems.
RETAIL, SALES & MARKETING MANAGER
Timothy Jia Huei Goh
Timothy leads the day-to-day operations of The Social Outfit’s retail and online store, as well as overseeing marketing and communication at The Social Outfit. He deeply believes that slow fashion labels such as The Social Outfit can be a platform for championing the rights of marginalised people and showcasing the beautiful cultures that make up our community.
SENIOR SEWING TECHNICIAN
Janette assists with the effective running of the day-to-day operations of our manufacturing workroom, and produces high-quality clothing and other products for sale by The Social Outfit.
Joucelen (Joss) Gabriel
Joss manages our manufacturing workroom coordinating the development of our collections and guiding the sewing technicians to further develop their skills and confidence in Australia's fashion industry. Joss also guides the work of our volunteers and runs our Sewing School.
PARTNERSHIPS & DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Kate heads up fundraising and partnerships at The Social Outfit, to support the growth of the business and our social impact outcomes.
Kate's had a multi-faceted career in social enterprise start ups and performing arts as a fundraiser, community builder, and creative producer. Her super powers are in using storytelling to connect people around a shared vision of change to make BIG things happen!
Kate is passionate about slow fashion, slow food and the role of social enterprise to progress social justice and contribute to community wellbeing.
Parwin Taqawi joined the Social Outfit in August 2020 as a Community Coordinator. She is from Afghanistan and came to Australia in 2014. She always had a strong passion for social justice, youth advocacy and working with people from Refugee and New Migrant Backgrounds.
As a Community Coordinator, Parwin helps with building up our online school, promotion for our programs and supporting our students and trainees throughout their journey with us.
We employ women from the refugee and new migrant community as part of our sewing technician employment program, making all of The Social Outfit's garments and accessories on site. These are paid positions, and for the majority of our sewing staff they represent their first job in Australia.
These placements run from 6 months to 2 years, and are designed to transition people into external paid employment.
We employ young people from the refugee and new migrant community as part of our retail training program, providing paid placements to learn retail skills and confidence in a supported Australian environment.
These placements run for 3 months and are designed to transition young people into external paid employment.
We offer community training programs in sewing and design free of charge for the new migrant and refugee community. Our sewing programs are often run in partnership with TAFE NSW, and our design programs are run in partnership with various settlement service organisations in Western Sydney.
These programs usually run between 4-10 weeks, and participants acquire measurable new technical and interpersonal skills, as well as confidence and information to access further training or employment.
