I want to get involved – how can I do that?
First of all, thank you for your interest in volunteering or interning with The Social Outfit! We love that so many people are keen to support our work and care just as much as we do about community, diversity and ethical fashion! We currently have a full team of staff and volunteers and are unable to take on any more assistance at this time.
However, we do always welcome expressions of interest for skilled volunteers. If you'd like to place an expression of interest, click here. We’ll then hold your details on file, and contact you if an opportunity arises.
We’ll always share volunteering and job opportunities across our social media so make sure you follow us there.
Our Workroom
How much of the fabric you use is donated?
The amount of donated fabric used varies from collection to collection. In our latest collection however, around 80% - 85% of the fabric used had been donated by our industry partners and diverted from landfill.
To date, we've saved over 9.5 tonnes of fabric from becoming textile waste!
Does The Social Outfit accept donations of fabric?
Yes! If you have access to quality clothing-production fabric or upholstery fabric that you’d like to donate to us, we’d love to hear more. Please contact Joss, our Production Manager, on 02 9550 3691 to discuss your offer.
Please note: we can’t take donations less than 1 metre in most instances. We also cannot take garments that have already been manufactured.
Can I donate a second-hand domestic or industrial sewing machine to you?
If you are looking to donate a domestic sewing machine or domestic overlocker, please contact us! Our sewers are always on the lookout for a machine to take home!
Unfortunately we are unable to accept donated industrial sewing machines for our workroom. We suggest contacting Reverse Garbage, who can assess industrial sewing machines on a case-by-case basis.
Do you offer pattern-making, sampling and/or manufacturing services?
At present we are unable to offer external pattern-making or sampling services. We do however offer some manufacturing services. Please fill out our manufacturing form before getting in touch with us regarding our manufacturing services!
We are investigating expanding our professional services in the future, and will announce any changes to our work here on our website.
Can I tour your workroom?
We aim to hold evening events at The Social Outfit every 4-6 months. These events are a great opportunity to see our work firsthand, meet some of our team, and hear more about our social enterprise. We also try and answer any questions.
We’ll always share our events across our social media so make sure you join us.
