Industrial Sewing Class (Beginners)

This is an 8-week program on an Industrial sewing machine. You will learn straight stitching and hemming on silk and polyester fabrics. This class is for migrant and refugee women who are interested in growing their skills and perfecting their technique on an industrial sewing machine. Practice makes perfect and those who show strong skills by the end of this course may be offered work. Led by Joucelen (Joss) Gabriel, The Social Outfit’s Production Manager, you will learn side-by-side with our diverse sewing team, practice your English skills and meet like-minded people.

Sample Making (Intermediate)

This is a 96-hour program designed for those wanting to progress commercial manufacturing skills on an industrial (professional) sewing machine. To join this class you must have completed some industrial sewing training, the class is NOT suitable for beginners. You will learn the process of Sample-Making, which is currently listed on the national skill shortage.

Practice makes perfect and those who show strong skills by the end of this course may be offered the opportunity to apply for paid work experience or employment via our partner networks in the fashion industry. Led by Joucelen (Joss) Gabriel, The Social Outfit Production Manager and delivered in partnership with TAFE Outreach, you will learn side-by-side with The Social Outfit’s diverse sewing team, practice your English skills and meet like-minded people.
