It All Starts on Paper: Capturing the AW Collection with Karina Olen
We've seen COVID-19 shake 'convention' to it's very core. Many small businesses (including us) have faced and continue to face immense challenges during these trying times.
Yet, the old adage rings true - 'out of adversity, comes opportunity'. We've always championed creativity and collaboration as cornerstone values of The Social Outfit, so when we were forced to make the heart-breaking decision to cancel our photoshoot, we found the path forward where we always have: our community.
With the help of the incredible stylist Peter Simon Phillips, who we've collaborated with countless times in the past and is truly part of The Social Outfit family, we engaged brilliant fashion illustrator Karina Olen. Karina generously volunteered to illustrate our new Autumn/Winter 2020 Collection.
Karina illustrates Varsha wearing our silky, semi-sheer Bianca Spender Night Lights Top and our Calm Indigo Denim Culottes.
Using images of models we've worked with in the past, and photos of the new collection, Karina was able to sketch and colour our new collection into existence, bringing the outfits to life to produce an editorial that is unlike any we've ever captured before.
Karina illustrates Maia in our Gold Flecks Bomber Jacket and Gold Flecks Wrap Mini Skirt all on top of our White Storm Sports Raglan for a co-ord look that will be sure to turn heads.
The illustrations feature some of the amazing models we've worked with on previous collections, such as Varsha & Mia from our Spring/Summer 19 collection, Kawani and Nya from our S/S18 Kaleido-cloth collection, Maia from our A/W 19 collection and more!
Karina illustrates Cindy re-imagined wearing our Tangerine Sports Raglan layered underneath our easy Blue Denim Pinafore cinched with our fun Peach Stripe Elastic Belt.
The illustrations are a wonderful way to honour some of the models we've collaborated with in the past while being able to showcase our gorgeous A/W 20 collection, and we're incredibly appreciative to Karina Olen for making this possible!
